actually they were talking about cold air intake vs aftermarket "warm" air intake and making it a CAI with a heat shield. ram air is completely different

 

I think I'm going to buy an eBay cai and make a heat shield. The post about cone vs rectangle filter made a lot of sense

 

look into making the heat shield out of a small rubbermaid trash can, plenty of people have done this with great results

Shouldn't if you put it in the same place as the stock air box, it doesn't get too hot there. Plus you can shape it exactly the way you want and give it your own look. Seems like a good efficient idea to me

 

Bought a ebay intake(looks like a k&n) 38.00 shipped bought a used k&n heat shield off a member here 10.00. So I have 48.00 into my intake plus it came with a real k&n filter too. So pretty much I have a k&n system on my truck for a fraction of the price and it works just as good.

 

Im going to put an open round classic Hot rod style on my truck and call it a day.. but I'm also goign to leave the stock air box.. incase i am off roading in a really wet area.. ill just pope the hose and air hat back on..

 

How will the round hotrod style work though? Dint you have to have a carb for that????

 

no, most carbs and tb's top dimension is about the same so the air cleaners are universal

 

How often are air cleaners like that used on dakotas, now I'm interested
