Default Insulation under hood? Advise

Dumb Question, I know the insulation under the hood in most cars and trucks are meant to quite the sound of the motor. does it serve as any other purpose other than this?

If I removed would there be any other problems? I know dodge has poor quality paint and primer.. that seems to fade/peel, would this cause the paint to peel/fade quicker..

Mine is starting to hang more and more and I really just do not care for it.. any thoughts i should be aware of? I'm probably going to remove it anyways just want to know what to expect in the future.

rip it out. there was a thread in the 3g section like a month ago about it. everyone there rips theirs out. no problems with anyof them. helps melt snow off the hood faster in the winter. but you live in texas.

Rip it out mine has been out for over a year now. Think of it this way the engine isnt going to produce enough heat to fade the paint. Yet the sun in the hot texas heat will have the hood 10x hotter. So the hood insulation is basically to keep the engine quiet.

I'm sure it just deadens the sound. The paint is not going to be killed because it's missing the pad. My friend's R/T has a pad and it's been in a garage most of it's life and the clear still messed up...so a pad is not going to make a difference. Mine doesn't have any, which kind of sucks, because I have an open cowl, so all the sounds are louder.

Yea, but it gets old. I want to make that cowl functional by making a new intake and seal up the center. Then I'd like to get a pad on the rest of the hood, so all I really hear is the air sucking in.
