I bought new shoes and notice they have the little pin you have to press in. I can't figure how the heck to press this in. Please help. 2k dakota 2wd.

 

ive always used a set of needle nose and pushed the retainer in and twisted it or you could get this tool http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CIYBEPICMAI#

 

not talking about that.. if you look at the shoes on autozone.com part 538 it has 2 silver almost like nuts that you have to force into the shoe.

do they hold the shoe to the backing plate? if so, pin through the back, springon shoe face, then the piece goes on, twist 90, and it locks on...

 

my old shoes have it but it is just pressed into the pad so tight it doesn't move.. so i have to use a vice or something to press new pin into new shoe. I'll be outside trying to force it in for a while.

what i ended up doing was vice grips to get it seated then lay it down to where i can bang on it without it warping and use a screw driver and hammer to drive it in till flush.

 

Yeah I know what you mean. I just used a pair of channel locks.

 

You should buy the brake tools, not much money, I forget.
But since you want to be a DIY'er, its something to keep in tool box for future.
Last summer I did same. Googled it up and got what I needed. Theres several you tube videos you can view.

I hit record and thought i recorded how to do it the hard way but it did not record. I'm guessing if you buy cheap brakes the pin to hold the ebrake cable is not connected.
