Default I need Transmission Advice !!!

i have a 1998 4x4 Dakota with a 318 and a 44re transmission..
the trans has recently started acting up and now it will hardly even get in gear enough to even roll down the driveway.
the first thing i noticed was it would hold out shifts till about 4 thousand rpm but then it would lock in gear at a stop light and force me to break and hold the gas a little to keep from stalling out..
but now i stick it in gear and you can hear a whine coming from what seems to be the torque converter but i really cant tell..
im having a really hard time finding another trans in my area and im just wondering if maybe the torque converter could be the only cause or if its a catastrophic failure and im just gonna need a whole new trans..

I had a 3.9 auto that did almost the same thing but did not look in gear the torque converter was the main problem with it i just had the guy replace what need to be replaced then i sold it and it is still going.

ive been thinking about putting a manual trans in it but im not sure what all i'll need to replace... i would love to have a manual over a auto.. i know i will need to change the flywheel and find a pedal and hydro clutch but im not sure if i need to change the PCM or any of the wiring harness things around to make it work. and im sure to do it correctly i would need to swap out the stearing col too...im good with mechanical things but tranny's were never my strong point...

I checked just about every option availible for factory reman or replacment trans and with the bs warrentys and costs and core charges it was juat better and more cost affective to rebuild with good summit parts.. doing that eliminated all the dodge failure equipment and ive got 500 miles on my trans now and its working perfectly

If you guys and gals need information on your transmissions. I'm always on the forum. I have been with dodge and building transmission for 25 years. Or if you see me posting in the minivan or durango sections and sometimes in the Ram truck. Just send me a message.

What was your question. When I mean I' am online aways doesn't mean every minute of the day. So if you didnt see me online and you had a question, you should have sent me a pm. Which I didn't have any.

Sorry to be so long replying. I think I was just posting your contact info for someone needing trans help and the whole msg didn't get posted.
