Engine swap?
Thinking out loud here...
I have the 3.7 and it sucks...actually it's a good motor just way too small for my QC.
Before I drop another $500 into it for TB and chip, I got to thinking...what about swapping in a 4.7?
My V6 is perfect and only has 51k miles on it. How much could I get for it?
How much would a 4.7 with around the same mileage cost?
Most important...can, and will, the 4.7 bolt up to my trans (42RLE) or wil I need to swap transmissions also?
How hard is it to do this swap? I assume it should be relatively straight forward, but I have never attempted anything like this before.

Yay, engine swaps!
Well Dropping in a 4.7 wouldn't be as hard as what I'm going to be doing but thats a whole different story, The motor mounts I imagine should be the same place on the 4.7 as the 3.7 (Now I may be wrong on that) If they aren't the same buying some would not be to hard.
You'll need a new pcm, wiring harness etc..
But yeah not to hard in my opinion
4.7 is a good motor, I like mine, but I'll be swapping for 5.7 hemi by next year hopefully.

Yeah, he might just want to keep his truck and drop a 4.7 in. But Yeah I can understand what ya mean
Like I want a hemi, but I don't want a ram haha Hemi swap!
And yeah donor truck would be the best for him.
If your truck is 4x4 (something I forgot to mention) You're probably going to have a problem with the transfer case working if the t-case is different from the 4.7, which I'm guessing they are since you'll need a new tranny. I'm not entirely sure. lol never worked with a 3.7 dak before.

My truck isn't 4x4. Regular old 2WD without LSD. LSD is irrelavant though, because I can't even chirp the tires when I launch anyways so it's not like I have a lack of traction.
In regards to selling my truck and buying a new one w/ a 4.7, not gonna happen. What I would get out of my truck and what I would get a new truck means I would lost thousands.

Well then that just eliminates t-case problems haha
Well if you do go ahaid with the 4.7 swap, (if it were me) I'd have fun with it and throw some performance parts on it, and increase that horse power.
Also when you do get the engine I'd go through and clean everything on it.

if you buy one from a company that sells engines not like from a junkyard your looking at spending between 1500 and 2500. plus a new trans. and the time and effort in getting thoes things shipped and installed. in my mind just sell and buy a 4.7.
you could sell your truck for over 4k i assume and pick a 4.7 up for not much more than that.

My truck is worth over $10k, but I would only trade it in and get a V8 if it had similar miles (less than 60K) I wouldn't buy a Dodge truck with over 70k miles on it.
I found an 06 Quad Cab w/ the 4.7 for $10,500...but there are cigarette burns on the seats, carpet is filthy, seats are dirty, etc. My truck doesn't have a single thing wrong with it, the interior is spotless, and I wouldn't downgrade the entire truck just to upgrade the motor.
