The biggest difference I've noticed in all my vehicles with 318's in them is the cost of the different grades of gas. Mileage and power-no change.

I was running 87 in my truck for years. After reading into my engine a little more its supost to be running on 89. (v10) I never heard pinging on 87. No better fuel mileage, but its a v10, nothing helps with that. The only thing I could conclude after running several tanks through was the responds time was quicker on the pedal and possibly drove a bit better.

In town about 10mpg. Highway little better. I drive like a grandma though. A buddy got a new 10 dodge diesel and got worse mph then I did.?! It's getting better for him now.

I brought the truck while I was still in high-school pushing carts at safeway. I needed something powerful to haul horses and was too broke for the cost of a diesel truck at any dealer ship. So I settled for the power and torque the v10s putts out.
Some 4 years later I still love the power and torque. It's just as expensive maintance and parts wise as a diesel so I didn't really cheat the system like I thought.
New tranny was needed this year, but for dodge and how much I hauled I expected it. Same tranny they run in diesel. Jokes on me once again. At least I know that if that v10 goes I can drop a cummings in as a replacement. Check engine light has never came on since I brought it. Very clean and runs like a champ.

Yeah I hear the motors are just as good as the cummins. I know if I had more power/better suspension I would tow a lot more but my dakota cant handle the weight like a 1500 can let alone a 2500. Hell with 10mpg I only get 3mpg better than that but I have been telling myself my next truck is going to be what I want which is a diesel.

I just did a test in my truck. I got more than 40 more highway miles already per tank with 89 over 87. Same route same driving speed everything. I say already more than 40 because I still have some left in the tank before I need to fill up. will re post when I fill up with the final number.

My buddy at work has an 08 2500 with the 6.7 cummins and he says it averages around 14-15. Not bad considering the weight of the truck and size of the motor. I would take a 6.7 cummins any day over a 8.4? v10.

As for the 89... I went to fill up yesterday and figured I'd try the 89... until i realized it was $4.30 a gallon, 87 is $4.05. No way I'm paying $.25 a gallon more. I'll never get it back.

Wow do gas prices change depending on where you are. Here is Wisconsin I could get 89 for around $3.80.

Yeah, CT now has the highest gas tax in the country so that's pretty awesome.
