Default oil question

I havean 02 dakota 3.9 4x4. Bought it with about 80k on it. Now has about 103k miles. It doesnt use or burn any oil. I was just wondering what oil filter you guys use? What is the best? I dont really mind on price too much, within reason. I just want my truck to run for a long time. I want to be the guy who shows up to my 10 year class reunion with the same truck haha. Well thanks for any info guys

Oh and I might add that I've been using just conventional pennzoil 10w-30 with a fram tough gaurd(orange filter). I've noticed the engine does tick every once in a while but nothing bad.

honestly if you are changing them every 3k it doesn't really matter however i play it safe and only use wix filters imo they are the best your money can buy. next time you go to ur auto parts store pick up a fram filter and a wix and compare the weight that it self will tell you which one is better. wix filters from my understanding have a 3 cycle filter were as fram only filters the oil ones each time around ...

Alright, sounds good. I was going to try the mopar filters. But like you said, my thought about it was always, if I keep the oil and oil filter changed every 3k miles, then I should be fine. I did a tune up when I got the truck about 2 years ago. It runs great. I love the truck more than anything. Have a few pictures I've even framed haha. Also changed all of the fluids on the truck myself. Both diffs, T-case and trans. Since its a 5 speed manual it was pretty easy. Did brakes all around, new serp belt. Some of the stuff may or may not have needed to be changed...but just wanted to prevent problems down the road.

Yeah, changing it on time is the most important part. Like someone else said WIX filters are one of the best you can buy. Mopar filters aren't actually made by Mopar. A lot of them are Frams or Purolators so you're basically paying more for the same filter.

Alright, well I'll see if I can pick up a WIX filter then. I appreciate all of the replies.

Napa Gold and Carquest Blue Label are both re-badged Wix filters. They may be easier to find and cost less than a Wix branded filter. Any of those filters and the Pennzoil you are using wil do just fine. Personally I stay away from Fram. Their air filters may be OK but their oil filters cost way too much for a filter that is not always such good quality. There are a lot of better filters available in the same price range and for less money.

i have a 2001 dakota v-6 i like valveoline premium blue 15-40. yes this is a truck oil, but dont go any thicker than 40 weight. but i works fine in the 3.9 v-6. and a puralator pure one oil filter. iam not saying you have to use the things i listed, iam just saying i like them.

I use Penzoil High Mileage 10-30 with a fram tough guard. It's just my personal preference.
