Default having gears done in DFW

the guy I had in mind wants $850 to put 4.10's in my truck. The gears only cost $220. Axle is Chry 8.25.

gears- $220
install kit- $85
bearing and seal kit- $13
shop rags, ect- $13
shipping everything to the shop- $35
labor- $450

Is that in line, or out in left field?

Labor will usually always be near $400.

Kinda depends where your at and who you have do it. My buddy had his done in his ram for 200.00 labor didnt take the guy long at all. I think 400 sounds a bit high but ok as long as he knows what he is doing.

It was $850 total. Just freaked me out...$800 to put in $300 of gears/install kit.

Well according to alldata, the standard time it take to replace gears is 3 hours. So if he wants $450 that's like $150 an hour. A stealership would not charge you $150 an hour I wouldn't think. You might want to look around for a better price.

guy that quoted $850 says he uses nitro gears, and he could have it done same day if I dropped my truck off the night before or first thing that morning.
