I had the same problem with my 03 dak. I bought a v-8 t-body from a junk yard for $20..... cold air intake..... 3" intermediate pipe with 40 series duel 2 1/2" outlet muffler..... and i took it a step farther by drilling my tps sensor and making it adjustable for a better throttle throttle response, and i also relocated my ait sensor from the intake manifold to the cold air intake...... seemed to help the small v6 breath a little easier. i live in upstate ny, so every year the inspection rolls around i just have to swap the throttle bodies back reset the cel and she passes, then i swap it back to the v8 one for another 13 months, lol. and mine is a 5 spd. 4x4 with 265/75r16s so she has alot of rubber to turn...... has over 117,xxx miles, and she still smokes the tires. i run all premium napa ignition system, cap, rotor, wires.... plugs are a double platinum champion. reg. 87 octane gas.
