I did this when I made my cai. It makes a world of difference on top end acceleration and when cruising on the highway I got about 1.5 mpg increase.

You could always do it and let us know if your engine blows up. . . .

Talking It’s in the planning stage

I probably won’t do it till next year but I’m planning it out… already priced a used throttle body but will now need a new air filter system and other things plus I want to R/R my heads at same time new gaskets port the heads maybe custom valves if available haven’t done this stuff in many years so I’m taking my time.

Got it!

I did the swap on my son's 1999 RC Dakota. There is a bit of difference on the top end, but remember there isn't much power to begin with, so you won't feel a kick in the seat change. It's only half an engine.

The two TBs have a mounting tab on the bottom that has a mating hole in the manifold - but they are in different spots for each TB/manifold. You'll have to file the tab off the 4.0 TB before it'll fit onto the 2.5 manifold. Get a big, sharp metal file and take your time. Make sure not to bugger up the TB's mounting surface. With a new gasket it'll seal just fine.

I don't know if pre-00's are different, but when I did mine the tab was on the AIS motor mount/adapter thing(idk what its called) which bolts onto the side of the tb and all I had to do was swap the mount from my 2.5 tb to the 4.0 tb. If I have time today I'll take my tb off and take some pics what I did.

You'll need a 1996 or later 4.0 TB. The MAP sensor is installed onto a long nipple/pipe coming from the TB's base.

The top pic shows the difference in the tab of the 4.0 and the 2.5 and the bottom pic shows the the tab on the manifold.
