2002 Dakota Sport 4WD 4.7L engine swap
Howdy,
I've been reading some helpful threads here since we started our engine swap project.
Anyway, we will try and post some pics and hopefully some info that will be helpful to others going down the swap road.
This is our first engine swap project so it should be interesting!
First helpful thing was to purchase the OEM shop manual online. It's been nice to have the detail and not have to keep printing off pages from a PDF.
We just removed the torque converter bolts which is step 14 in the shop manual.
Only hickey so far was the exhaust crossover bolts which had to be removed with a sawsall.
That's it for now...

Hmmmmmmm, it seems my dad made this thread, then left it for dead... So I'm gonna pick up on where he left off, and hopefully get a good write up goin.
Here's the truck after unloading it from the trailer
Getting the interior nice and cleaned up
After a good bath
It would be nice if there was actually some room to work in there...
I'll skip through all the boring stuff. Here it is after a good amount of work in the garage.
Ready to pull!
Here it is after yankin that sucker out!
Up on the stand
Got a new toy in the mail! It's a remanufactured 4.7 Magnum from S&J engines. I've read some mixed reviews from them, so I'll make sure to let you guys know how it goes.
Gettin the valve covers all cleaned up
It's beautiful!
It even has a powder coated block! Sweet!
I got some high temp paint and got the valve covers lookin good.
Anyways, that's as far as we've gotten so far. Having the new motor is definitely some good motivation to get workin though!

Thanks for all the input guys! The plan for now is to keep it all stock, and just get it running really well. I would've loved to get new cams, but there doesn't really seem to be much aftermarket support for the 4.7's. Once it's done, though, I'm sure I'll eventually get a cold air intake and a new exhaust for it.
The one thing holding us back from getting some good progress done on the truck right now are the exhaust manifolds. They got warped on the old engine, so we just need to take the time to go to a shop and get them machined. That's it for now!

We got a little more work done the past few days!
Got a new water pump put on
And we also got the harmonic balancer installed last night
We brought the warped intake manifolds to an engine shop today and had them machined flat too!
Now that we pretty much have everything we need to finish the truck, I'm sure I'll be out in the garage quite a bit more than I have been.
