Default Rebuilding vs Remanufactured

The 3.9 in my truck is heading down hill and I have been weighing my options. If it was your truck, would you have your current motor rebuilt, so you have the say so as to what gets done to it, or buy a Remanufactured motor, basically factory stock. I am leaning more towards a rebuild, but either option I am looking at about the same amount of money.

I agree with Thunder, go reman.

You usually get a pretty good warranty.

The Jasper motors carry a 3 year/100,000 mile, which is great, but at $2800 that is pretty steep!

I guess what it boils down to is who's going to do the work. If it was me, I'd do it myself and not worry about a warranty.

Check out boneyards too. Some will give you a 30-90 day warranty.

If I have it rebuilt, I will have a local machine shop do the head work, and the boring and honing of the cylinders, I will be doing all assembly.

It sounds like you've made a decision.

Default If yes If you have the knowledge

If yes If you have the knowledge and special tools to undertake this choice Bravo.

If not let the pros do it with a solid warranty I have rebuilt engines in the far past and had great results but I was educated by the time I undertook the rebuild and had some luck and solid guidance.

They were soild speedy engines also.
