Default 2002 front brakes dragging

I purchased this truck in 2003 with about 10k miles on it. At about 20k the front brakes locked up. the dealer replaced rotors and pads. At about 35k they locked up again. Same parts replaced. I had both front brake lines replaced and fluid flushed and this did not solve the problem. This truck now has 45k on it and I don't drive it far because (not always) after about 10 mile the left front wheel get very hot from brake drag. I notice there are many people with the same problem. Has anyone found out what the problem is with this series truck. I can't afford to keep throwing parts at a problem with no fix.

I would recommend fixing the problem. Namely, the calipers. Sounds like you should go back to the dealer, have them give you money back and fix your problem.

I believe there was issue with the '03 calipers, and well, they should know it isn't just your pads/rotors. While they were adversly affected, they werent the cause I suspect. Any other 03 guys can chime in, but a rebuild caliper is around $60, and takes probably 40 minutes per side. Having the shop do it, I havent a clue. prob 2 hrs labor and more pads/rotors if theyve been heated up again. This is where I'd have the dealer foot that part of the bill. Of course this doesnt always work. My quick thoughts...wait, you have an 02/03 with less than 50K on it? I thought I was bad just clicking past 65K...lol

A known problem with the Dakota front brakes is the rubber brake hoses. The inside of the hoses will collapse and and only let the fluid flow out to the calipers and not back to the fluid reservoir. Replace the front brake hoses and your problems should be over.

One of the reasons this happens is when people do brake work on the front and let the brake caliper hang by the hose instead of using some type of hook to suspend it from the frame. The weight of the caliper stretches the rubber hose to the point of where the inside will begin to deteriorate and stop the flow of the fluid back to the brake reservoir.
