I need to replace the complete rear axle in my 2001 Dakota. The axle is an 8.25 round 392 gear ratio. My question is do both the 2wd and 4wd Dakota have this rear end and if so would the rear axle from the 2wd work in the 4wd?

 

They're different. The springs mount on top of the 4x4 axle and the bottom of the 4x2.
