Pull the trim off and unbolt the shifter. I can pour it in from the top and not have to mess around with a hose on the bottle or a pump. It also allows me to get an extra quart in there.

Or maybe people are wrong on using GL-5 in a GL-4 only trans I think it depends on is it synthetic if yes you are good to go Mobile 1 is synthetic

If anyone is freaked out stick with what you want I’m not forcing anything on anyone just my opinion and what I have used and works for me

Use what you want and what you feel safe with.
Again, you do not have a NV3500.

00DakDan- shifts like a dream thanks for all the advice all! Okay, I think we've established that mobil 1 should NOT be used in an NV3500 tranny. Hey Hans- is the benefit of adding the 3rd quart of syncromesh just added protection, better feel? What is the benefit specifically?

To me 2 quarts doesn't seems like enough. Every other manual tranny I can think of takes at least 3 quarts. An extra quart is actually recommended by most for the NV4500 because of oiling problems. I figured it couldn't hurt the NV3500 either and the mileage mine has and with the abuse I've given it, it's holding up well, not much metal on the drain plug last fluid change (around 35k on the fluid).

Great thanks for the advice ill give it a try. Do you have to remove the console also or just the rubber boot around rhe shifter?

I like to fill the tranny by removing the shifter, this also allows me to use 3 quarts. 202k miles, last 22k+ behind a boosted 5.2 and it's holding up great.

OP, for that many miles, the magnet looks pretty normal.
Thank you for pointing that out! I was reading through the 4 pages here and was going nuts since DAKAZ doesn't have a NV3500. He's telling eveyone what they have to do and he doesn't even have the same trans! Finally someone pointed this out.

To the OP, I had the same filler nozzle. I used the Pennzoil Synchromesh as well and it seems to work great. Pretty inexpensive compared to the Mopar fluid and works just as well.

While mine doesn't have a console (that goes down to the shifter, anyways) I have done it on a 98 as well, we did have to remove the console I believe.
