Default Crap.... Rod knock developed on a 2.5 01 RWD...

So I picked the truck up 20k miles ago, its always had a bit of rod noise, was worse when it was cold it seemed, but nothing major, oil pressure has been good, well tonight the rod noise went from bad to worse. Id say its about done for. Truck runs great but knocks like crazy, depending on throttle position is what the knock depends on, obviously changing with engine speed but reving up it sounds more prevalent then it chatters and knocks as the revs fall.

So..... Anyone know what vehicles these motors came in so I can visit the junk yard? How hard is it to rebuild these motors? Is it even worth it?
Motor has 141k on it, no smoke.

The trucks got brand new rubber on it, a nice cap, spray in bed liner, NO rust, decent body, good interior, I have replaced / upgraded nearly every suspension component, and Id hate to get rid of it....

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

IIRC, you should be able to find one out of Jeep or another Dakota.

You should be able to rebuild it and find parts fairly easily.

Anyone know where I can buy a master overhaul kit for the 2.5 motor?

Start with Rockauto, they have lots of your parts including a long block if you see fit.

Or, search on 2.5 Jeep Master overhaul.

Here's just one: http://www.perfectengine.com/Jeep_15...Kits_s/290.htm
