I did the Mk8 fan mod. Best $55 I've spent in years. Truck struggles to open the 180 thermostat some days.

A search lead me to this thread rather than starting yet another one.

I'm in the middle of replacing the water pump on my: 04 QC 4X4 AT 4.7L w/AC.

I'm not going to use the mechanical fan but was wondering since now that the system is drained should I go with a 180 T-Stat? It averages 25 degrees here in the winter but can get up to 105 in the summer. I really don't want to drain and swap T-Stats twice a year.

Does anyone have a part number for the 180 through O'Reilly, Autozone or NAPA?

Thanks

Some people run a 5.9L 180 thermostat with some modifications. This thermostat is a plug and play, and (according the the people who sell it) works better.

Personally? I would run the 5.9 one. I can't stomach 60 dollars for a thermostat.

So the only 180 plug & play thermostat is $60?

I'm not spending that either...What do I have to mod on a 5.9L thermostat? I've only got an hour to wrap things up before I need the truck.

Cut a matching notch out of it.
