Best exhaust set up for dakota
This is what I called a 'roll steel' muffler back when I owned a muffler shop. This particular one is made from 16ga steel rolled into a 6" cylinder and is 26" long. Cut holes in each end and welded in 2.5" ID nipples to clamp to the front exhaust pipe and stock tail pipe. At the time of the vid the muffler was only about 2 weeks old and still had that peaky ring to the sound but the longer you run a roll steel the deeper the sound gets. This is as close to getting a V8 sound out of a V6 you'll ever get.

how loud is something like this though? with videos its hard to get an honest idea of the exact of the sound because of the recording. if i did want to get a muffler like this what would be your suggestion as to where to look?
Cut a 2.5" hole in each end in the offset/offset position and allow about 2" of pipe to extend down inside the muffler. Spread the pipe nipples to 2.5" ID so it will slip over the exhaust pipe and tail pipe. Any muffler shop should be able to do this for you.
Cut the stock muffler out and clamp this one back in it's place and you're ready to go.
Back to my question earlier what size is the stock piping? Do I have a center or offset inlet and center or offset outlet? If offset is it offset to the right or left? Thanks
As I said earlier...2.5" on the pipe size and every one of those questions about your stock muffler can be answered by simply looking under your truck.
I would look under the truck but since its been pouring down rain all day and I dont have a muffler on there at all and am missing a large section of pipe it makes it a little harder

Totally bummed that I missed this pole.
Either way; my Dynomax 17219 made a huge difference, for me, for the better.
I have a V6. You CAN get get it to sound better - deep/tonal/more-menacing but you will never have it sound like a V8. I promise you this.
I do a lot of work on my truck at my uncle's garage - his 100% stock 2000 V8 Dakota 4x4 club-cab is in the other bay.
I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm just trying to save you some cash and your sanity.

It doesn't really matter where the inlet and outlet are. The stock is center/center but if you get one that has a right inlet/left outlet it can still work fine. My Hooker is that way it was no big deal to put it in.
