I was looking into a new muffler on a whim for my 3.9, glad I found this thread.

I noticed someone posted wanting the stock muffler dimensions, so I crawled under my truck and measured as best as I could.

If I remember correctly, my father replaced the muffler on my Dakota when it was his daily driver, but as far as I know he used a factory replacement oem muffler.

Dimensions: (approximately)
17 INCHES LONG, 10 inches wide (in the plane formed by the inlet and outlet), 7 inches thick.

It appeared to be offset inlet, offset outlet. The distance from center inlet to center outlet is about 5 inches.

I'd only be interested in something a little more mild, as the Dak is my daily driver, so I'm mainly looking stuff such as the dynomax super turbo and the flowmaster 70 or 50 - still looking into other ones..

flowmaster 50 series and 70 series both sound good. If you dont want it real loud go with either one of those and go to flowmasters web site and get an idea of what sounds good to u. I had a dynomax super turbo on my 2001 ram and it was quiet at idle and kicked it loud when u gunned it. Wasnt sold on the sound but it wasnt bad.
