Question Could my differential be bad?

2001 rt dakota standard cab. I have noticed a single pop two seperate times while first backing up. If you lay on the gas from a stop it will only lay one black mark and it will only get to 70mph up a ramp floored. If the clutches are bad the truck cant be putting all of its power to the ground. any thoughts or ideas? thanks

Default I say

Pop the Diff cover drain the old oil look at it see if something looks wrong chipped broken if good re-cover re oil at least you know.

oil cover gasket + oil $30 to $40

Check all U-joints

Check rear end everything loose bolts clamps shocks shock bolts leaf spring clamps bolts so on.

Check spare tire mount.

Check transmission mounts and bolts/nuts.

As long as one wheel isn't spinning, it is putting all the power to the ground, worn clutches won't stop the differential from working as an open.

If a tire slips, then yes, you are losing power (traction).

I'd check u-joints, tranny and motor mounts.
