I replaced mine and helped my dad replace his and we did it without buying the special tool. I just took two short bolts and stuck them in the holes of the water pump pulley and used a big pry bar to hold it in place and a large crescent wrench.
You had the bolts I bet allready, i didnt even think of that but I also needed a way to keep the new pump nice and un mangled because i got the lifetime warranty.
I just dug around the garage for some short bolts and actually it didn't mess up the pump at all. It still looked new after we got it installed and took the bolts out.
