I've always just used Mopar 5w-30 in mine, never has an issue in the cold.

Lightbulb final points synthetic oils

final points synthetic oils

The things that get over looked about synthetic oils is.

1 they take the heat and cold better than regular oil.
2 synthetic oils also keep your engine clean no sludge.
3 synthetic oils dont brake down like regular oil.
4 synthetic oils are proven friction reducers.

But most folks only look at one thing how $$$ synthetic oil is so they avoid them.

They would rather spend big $$$$ for some fuzzy dice for thier window instead.

Synthetic oil keeps your engine CLEANER (slightly) than regular oil. You make it sound like its spotless with synthetic and filled with sludge on conventional oil. They can last longer. Usually in our trucks, the synthetic doesn't have quite the pay off (IMO) that it would in different vehicles. If you use conventional and change it every 3-5k miles, you will never have a problem. Either way some sludge and carbon will build up over time. It's going to happen one way or another.

+1 on changing at the recommended intervals. I use whatever is a good price at the time. In my 09 Ram with 17k miles on it I used a cheapy filter and cheap oil. Next change I bought a mopar filter from Wally world and Quaker State synthetic blend,( 7 Quarts for the beast). Mostly because price was only a few bucks more and I slept a wee bit better.
On the 97 Dakota.... High milage oil and whatever filter.
Point is whatever makes you feel OK, just change it on time and if it makes everyone happy use a Synthetic blend.

Default the past is the past

The past is the past

Synthetic oil has been proven over and over to beat conventional oil hands down. So why???
