Default New dakota owner, Knock Knock

Hey all I just bought a 1998 dakota with a manual 5 spd, 4x4, 5.2, extended cab. Great looking truck. I bought it with a knocking motor but already located another 5.2 to swap in with 60k miles (owner claims, seems like a straight shooter kind of guy but im going to inspect the motor a bit) for 250 bucks. My old man has a 99 durango with the 5.9 auto, 4x4 and i fell in love with it, so i wanted dodge for myself. Anyway just saying hello to everyone and look forward to getting my dodge on the road. Ill post some pics of the truck in the morning.

Thanks dakcc! I'm hoping the swap goes without problems but i'm sure there will be a couple exciting moments. I'm also going to prep and paint the roof to match the rest of the truck. Either way i'm very excited to get it on the road so I don't have to drive my track day car on the street anymore.

Welcome @TwoDoorDime.
Aside from the nicer R/T style wheels our truck look identical.
... I just wish I had the 5.2 manual .

Good luck with it and good to have you here!

hey, while you have that other engine out check the plenum for the dreaded blown gasket, or just replace the plate with one that is aluminum and dont take a chance with it failing later. IMHO

Thanks guys! Our trucks definately look similar your paint looks nicer though. Thanks for the advice on the intake gasket I already was planning on getting the fix from hughsengines (if I remember right, I have the link saved on my laptop). I'm starting the engine pull today! It's a bit cold but oh well I want to drive my truck.

Well took me about 3-4 hours to get the old motor out and the new block placed in the bay (its not bolted in yet but its in there). Everything went really smooth no broken bolts or hang ups. The old motor is incredibly dirty inside. THICK sludge. It was getting cold so I quit early. I think if the weather had been nicer (or i hadnt been such a ....... about it) i could have gotten it done tonight.
