u might need to change out the diff fluid and clean the magnet in the bottom of axle housing, it fills up full of metal dust so to say, and cling to rear abs sensor, screwing up the readings making the light come on, both my dakotas have done it, it also messed up speedo readings.. after wards i just disconnected battery and let it sit and reconnected.. fault gone

update. I have the right part, yet still throwing code shortly after resetting code. Could this be a wiring issue, electrical problem, or ?

What code are you showing? You said O'Reilly's couldn't read brake codes.

On my 97 Dakota Sport Magnum 5.2 4x4 I had the brake and ABS light on. The rear brake shoes were changed but the light stayed on. Took to a brake shop and diagnostic tool said differential sensor the fault. I was replaced and brake system bleeded and new fluid installed. the problem was solved, no more brake or ABS light on.
