And today I am replacing the pads and rotors on the front brakes. So I was hoping someone had an idea of what may be causing the engine issue. I have seen a lot of posts about the IAC and TPS could be dirty and need to be cleaned/replaced.

I was having a similar problem several months back with my 03 5.9. Only difference is my didn't always start right back up. Long story short a new crank sensor solved my problem

00DakDan: thanks, I will check those connections. Also when they serviced the tranny, they apparently overfilled the fluid, When I got home, the entire left side under the hood was covered in red fluid, including the air filter that was completely saturated. But they replaced the filter and drained the extra 2 quarts of fluid when I went back the next morning.

So I checked all of the harnesses you suggested, all were tight and clean. On my way to the parts store, I was on the freeway and my RPM's started dropping really low at 70 mph. It never dropped low enough to die, but went from around 1600 to right around 500. sputtered a few times then was back to normal.

I also took the pllastic cover off of the air intake and the 2 valves are covered in black residue. i am going to clean everything connected to that and see if that helps. I also read "Check your splice under your battery. You may have to peel the convulet off the harness, but there is a main power splice that feeds the pcm. This splice has made me tons of money at the dealership for the exact same problem you are having." any thoughts on that?

This is just me but i would stop taking it to those so called "mechanics" If this is my truck I would of did the spart plugs and all that and then start with the iac if it doesnt work then move on to the map sensor if no go then on to the crank sensor(highly doubt it tho cause it starts fine afterwards)

I removed and cleaned the TB. It was filthy. I have attached a picture showing one piece that was caked in residue truck.jpg

my phone thought i wanted 6000 I fixed it now that I am home. it was at 1600 rpms roughly, then dropped to 500 or so. After cleaning the TB and IAC it seemed to be running a bit better. Now it is the wait and see if it does it again game.
