Default Bed organizer

Ever had one of thoughs ideas that you can't seem to just put together??

Trying to plan out a bed organizer for my truck. Going to be 2by8 pressure treated frame with a ply wood lid with hinges. Trying to figure out if I want to do the whole bed or just half. And want to make it removable without destroying it. Any helpful hints would be great!

Be more specific, bed organizer for what type of things? Why not buy a in bed tool box?

I think by the time you spend the money on the pressure treated wood(expensive if you dont already know) Then the planning out, cutting and putting together you could just save time and money and get a aluminum tool box.

I just got a nice Husky toolbox on Craigslist for 50 bucks. I didn't like the lock, so I bought a hasp and a master lock

I can totally relate to what you're saying – I HAD been plotting out an idea (seemingly) similar to yours since shortly after I took my Dakota home. I am, not at all, trying to discourage you but unless you have a very specified purpose to achieve, an abundance of rolled steel and a welder; I would, absolutely, look further into tool chests, cargo bars and the like.
dodgeramguy85 is 110% correct about the costs of pressure treated lumber – it will add-up at a head-spinning rate and it’s ultimately not the right solution to any situation in regards to a pickup truck in the long-run.

So far; I have not been as fortunate BUT deals on tool chests on Craig's List are achievable. I'd rather deal with a crappy lock on a tool chest than recreate the wheel in my pick-up bed. Just sayin'.

I have a canopy so cant get a aluminum tool box.

It will be to carry everything from tie-downs to basic tools.
And to be more specific it's goin to be 2by8 frame (pressure treated is out of the question now) so it will be 8inches tall by 45inches wide by 30inches long. Just trying to figure out how to secure it to the bed without drilling into the bed itself; As well as if i should go full length of the bed.

And macgollabhride I like to recreate the wheel... Kinda my thing!

What about a cargo tray? It is like a box that is bed sized and has a slide out drawer. I believe some are called Pack Rats or something like that.
