I have a problem with my ash tray and need to remove and replace it. The problem is that I don't see what holds it in. Does any one know how to remove it?

Just the tray or the whole assembly?

They tray removed by squeezing the 2 sides and pulling out, assembly is screwed in at the bottom/back.

Mine is broke too. I just have it shoved up and pinned under the dash bezel.

It looks like that the cover is broke, so I am looking at taking out the assembly to check it over and replace it if nessary.

on mine, the cover broke off the tray, and the hinges on the tray broke. I didn't try squeezing it out. I'm hoping I can use that spot for a small gauge pod or something using a replacement tray- That way it's stealth. Wanting to add vacuum, oil pres, water temp, and trans temp gauges. I know I can't fit 4 gauges there, but it'd at least help. Really all I need for racing is water temp and trans temp. Even then, the Mk8 fan keeps water pretty much between 180 and 190, so trans temp is all I need. And I know I can fit 1 gauge in the ash tray.

I just went out and could not spot any screws in the bottom of the ashtray.

You will have to remove the actual tray part first before you can remove the screws.

I'm not at home otherwise I would get photos.

I finally got the wirea loose (there was a lock). So the cover is off now and has one of the lower hinge hooks broke. Now I need to find one. It looks like the Dakota and Durango might use the same part. Thanks to every one for your help.
