Hi all,
I pulled into my driveway and the motor just quit. Has gas. Still turns over, but won't fire. It's a 5 speed 4wd with 175000 on the clock and I love this truck. Do they have a habit of burning chips or should I think fuel?
Any ideas and places to start, tricks much appreciated.

Hmmm. Ok. I don't hear it. Is it in the gas tank?

 

so if you turn the ignition to the start position but not turn it over you dont hear the gas pump kick in?

Sounds like EricBing may be correct very common fail at your mileage

 

It is in the gas tank.

It'll only run a few seconds when you turn the key on listen closely.

 

Ok. Mt junkyard has one with 100 day warrantee for 50. Ismthatmok or should I get a new one? Also, do I drop the tank to get at it? I dont see it when I scrunch under it.

First I would check a few things before you pay for a new pump unfortunately this is something I’m no expert on wait for 00DakDan to help you he is good at that stuff.

Follow what he askes you to check

Replacing the pump is not easy but not hard if you have the space to do it so make sure that is the problem.

Remember we are good at what we can do to help but sometimes we are wrong its better to check all things out first

So you know most replace the pump by removing the bed of the truck they say that’s easy compared to dropping the gas tank

Could be an electrical problem

 

Let it sit for a bit to let the system drain down and lose pressure. When you key on next, you'll hear the pump whir for 3-6 seconds to prime the system then shut down waiting for a crank signal. Is the engine light on? If so, do the keydance (key on->dash lights on -> immediate key off, repeat 3x) and look in the odometer. Could be a failed PCM.
