Default 97 Dakota throwout bearing

Bearing in my '97 3.9 V6 is bad. I'm not much of a mechanic but cant afford to have it done. Is this something I could tackle myself or should I bite the bullet and take it somewhere. The truck has 218,000 miles on it and is paid for. Any opinions?

2wd or 4wd?

The 2wd isn't too bad. You can do it flat on your back for the most part. It's a bit more work for the 4wd version. If you don't have a manual you'll need one.

Labor is the killer. If you're going in to change the bearing then do everything, the parts aren't that bad.

Is it possible to do a clutch and throw out bearing with out a transmission jack? I have done clutches before just not on a Dak 4x4. I have a 99 3.9 4x4

You'll probably want a tranny jack, it'll make things so much easier. The transmission itself is fairly heavy, maybe a bit over 100 pounds. The transfer case, maybe another 75 pounds or so.

Sure you can bench them but then you need another body to get the bolts in.
