Actually, he says he told the shop "not to mess with it."

I hope it's not something major after getting 4 new tires, an alignment, the a/c fixed, and an inspection.

That was an earlier post the newer one says its in the shop again this Friday

Reading his posts it’s a bit confusing nothing has been done yet it will get done on Monday is my understanding so I’m not sure if he has change his mind or sticking with his original statement of not messing with it. I guess we will find out next week

Short story;

Got truck back and changed oil, 10- w30 and filter.
Clacked for less than 5 seconds, then purred.
Pressure built quick.
After warm up drove 2 miles w/good (60-70) pressure, no dips.
Trucks good to go.
We'll see tomorrow....

Now... I noticed it's infested with Ants.
I've gotta do something about THAT !!!

I drove the Truck 50 miles today with no dips, 60-80 psi the whole time.
There is no noises other than a normal V6, Idle or at Speed.

Bought some insecticide to get rid of the ants on the exterior, under-carriage and doors..
I'll dust the interior with Boric Acid and vacuum good.

I need to get off my butt and change Air Filter and Plugs.

It's doing it again...
Started the truck and as I was backing out of driveway the Oil Pressure Gauge dropped to "0" for a few seconds then went up to 30 psi.
About 15 miles and it dropped then came up again. Then 5 minutes later it dropped and stayed there.

I did my appointment and after 2 hours started the truck, and the Oil psi was 40 and went to 60-70 at 2500 RPM.
Driving away the the pressure dropped and stayed there, at about 10 miles I could hear a lifter.
While I was sitting at a Stop Light I turned the truck off for a few seconds and the Gauge showed 40 psi when I re-started it.
Within a minute the pressure dropped / the gauge stopped responding.

I stopped at the Post Office and was there for only 5 minutes. Came out and started the truck and was getting 60-70 psi and no lifter noise.
By the end of the block the gauge showed no life.

Should I try another Oil/filter change, it's only been 150 miles and it ran great for 100 of those miles.
Do you think the Oil Pump Pick-up / Screen is clogging?
Bad Oil Pump?

I suggest a new sending unit or pull it out and check it for muck my understanding is these things do go out rather often.

But if worried get the thing checked out to be sure its reading correct

then you will know for sure.

$20 to $35

Can you put a mechanical gauge on it? It's the best way to get an accurate reading of the oil pressure.

Yes, the sender may be bad but if you're hearing tappet noise I think you've got another issue. Maybe the pump, or sludge, something internal.

The oil pump does not foam the oil in an overfilled engine, but if it is high enough for the crankshaft to dip into the oil that can whip the oil into a foam. Check the dipstick immediately after shutting down to see if there is oil foam on the dipstick.

An oil thickener would actually raise the oil pressure, especially when the engine is cold.

Running an engine for a half mile in cold weather (northern climates) can cause water condensation to form inside the engine. It can be a problem if the engine doesn't get fully warmed up. My brother was a mechanic in northern Wisconsin. In the winter when he would leave work to drive home at night, he would drive ~2 miles in the opposite direction, then turn around and drive home. That was to put about 6 miles on to get it fully up to temperature rather than driving 2 miles and shutting down a cool engine. Even small amounts of water in the oil creates a milky emulsion that turns to sludge. Check inside the rocker covers through the oil fill opening to see if you have oil/water emulsion or sludge in the top end. In my experience, evidence of sludge shows up in the top end long before you get it in the oil pan. However, if someone scraped off sludge in the top end and a lot of it went down past the pushrods and down the oil return holes, you could have sludge to clean up in the bottom end that could clog the oil pickup.

I agree that a mechanical pressure gauge is probably the best diagnostic tool for this situation. If you are truly not getting pressure at the sending unit, either 1) clogged pickup, 2) foaming oil, 3) broken pump, 4) clogged passage to gauge/sending unit. Since it is fluctuating #3 & 4 are unlikely. The other cases 1 & 2 would likely give you ok oil pressutre at low rpm and low pressure at higher rpm. I've had gasoline softened RTV gasket material (nasty goo) get in the pickup - NO OIL PRESSURE at any speed.
