Default What is this hole for?

This is for a 2003 Dakota, Quad Cab, 4.7L V8. Could someone please help me identify this hole and what it is for? It looks like a bolt is missing and possible fluid leak from it, however I can't identify it myself. Although it appears to be on the side of the transmission.
I noticed this today when I was about to change the oil, which I've done many times but for some reason this stuck out and I haven't noticed it before. I've checked all of my fluids and everything is good and I have no noticeable leaks anywhere. I'm really lost as to what this is. Please help and thank you in advance.

I just checked my 03 4.7 and it looks identical to yours. I guess it's just a mystery hole.

Looks to me like a bolt hole used to hold the transmission during assembly.

It is a 2WD. Pavement pounder... I've not heard that before, lol.

Thank you all for the help, I'm inclined to believe it is a hole used for assembly or something like that. I was just concerned as it looked like there was some type of fluid coming out. But the truck is running great, and still all the fluids are at the correct levels.
