Default My Herculiner Bed Liner Project

I have had the last few days off work. My the last few years I have been wanting a bed liner in my truck, but never got it done. I almost had it sprayed in, but shelling out $550 to get it done did not go over well with me. So I picked up a Herculiner kit for about $89. I bought gloves, extra paint brushes and some 60 Grit sand paper for orbital sander.

My bed had scratches and rust in it, I wanted to make sure I removed all rust and treat the spots. I decided to sand as much of the bed as I could and make sure other areas were really scuffed up.

So here are a few pictures. I am pretty happy how it turned out, I have never used this before.

Looks pretty good! I've saw it done with the dupli color stuff and didnt look as good. I think if I was gonna do it I would almost wanna do 2 coats. Let us know how it holds up. I got rhinoliner in my truck and it really holds up to my abuse plus it has a lifetime warranty.

I did the two coats it said to. I am very happy with the look. Was not an easy job and had to wait a day before I could apply it and sanding, the humidity was brutal.

I am going to order the UV protection that they have.

I guess I should of said 2 kits. I think there is just enough to do a 6.5 foot bed. I meant like I would wanna do it twice. My rhino liner is like 1/16th thick maybe a tad more.

That looks professionally done. Very nice job. Where do you buy the kit? Is black the only color?

The Herculiner is very thick after two coats. I know on www.herculiner.com you can get other colors, I bought this off the shelf at a local auto store, all they had was the black.

How is this holding up. What did you use to clean it with after you were done sanding?

It has been only a week or so, and I should mention I have gotten alot of compliments on it. I should have done it a long time ago. I am still waiting for the UV protection kit to come in the mail.

First thing you want to do is wash and sweep out the bed.
Then Tape off areas you don't want to sand or get the liner on.
After you sand it, or scuff it up, you wipe it down really well with Acetone which was already mentioned.
First coat is a light roll on, you use a paint brush for the corners or areas you cannot use the rollers.
It said to take off the tailgate. It did not. I wish I would have, but since I did this for my first time, I wanted to make sure I could still close it, but now that I know it does not add too much thickness, I would do the bottom and sides of the tailgate.

You have to wait about 4 hours for the first coat to dry and then you do the second coat. The instructions say to do the second coat within 24 hours.

Hope that helps.
