Default Rear Dif Oil and Spare Tire Bar rod.

Hey guys,

Going to change the rear dif oil in my truck soon - just did my front because it was leaking. My question is though, I have the 8.25 and the LSD. I'm confused with finding the right oil... I know it requires 75w90 but also the trak-lok additive. The oil I got is synthetic and GL-5 compliant - do you think this means it has the additive in it? I asked the guy at the store and he wasn't sure about the additive I was asking about. It's most like a strange brand to all you guys in the US - it's by Motomaster which is Canadian Tire's specialty brand and I haven't been able to get too much info on it. The GL-5 compliant part has me thinking that it has the additive in it already... do most oil's these days include the additive?

Second question...

When doing my body lift, the bar you spin to lower the spare tire was bent so I can't put the spare tire back up. Is this a part you can buy a replacement for? I know its awkward but mine is pretty rusted so I don't think I wanna go try to find it off another dak. Right now my spare tire is in the bed but I wanna get back underneath.

Thanks!

It should say with friction additive, I use royal purple when i do mine and it always says on it "With Friction modifier additive"

But i think thats only required for Posi rear ends..

When in doubt about the additive, put it in. If it doesn't say on the bottle it likely doesn't. GL-5 does not mean it has it already.

For the spare tire, on mine that rod is held in place by a clip, it's not part of the winch. Try a boneyard. You should be able to find one easily.

Cant you get any other brands like penzoil, royal purple, amsoil? Check your manual it should say if you can use gl-5(Im pretty sure you can tho) As far as the spare tire rod. You can find one at a junk yard. Problem is your gonna have a hell of a time getting it out cause its gonna be wedged in there. Its just a piece of rod with a square end on it for the tire iron rods so you could prob make one pretty easy.

Thats the problem - a Canadian Tire is the closest thing to me and a NAPA is 2 hours away. Can Tire has a good selection of motor/diesel oils, but practically nothing with gear oil.

This was the only 75w90 I found - There was a royal purple 75w140 but thats it.

And they didn't know what I was talking about the additive.

Try your dealer for the additive.

That's why it's called crappy tire lol. You can get the oil from a shop fairly cheap, they should sell the correct oil for a LSD diff. For my spare tire rod I cut the bracket off and used a spacer block to get the correct height and bolted it back together, works great, but mine was not so rusty.

Walmart has an absolute terrible automotive section - even in the new Supercentre they built 30 mins from my house.

I may just try building my own bar - and I called the stealership and ofcourse they want $24 for a small 500mL bottle.

I had to replace my bar cause the end was rounded off and I just went to a couple pick and pulls and found one that was in good shape
