Default Cummins ISF 2.8 drop into Dakota

I am getting info together for purchasing a Cummins ISF 2.8 to drop into a Dakota. I am in the process of looking for a 2nd gen dakota and doing research to purchase the Cummins. Has anyone done this yet? Anyone dropped a 4BT into a Dakota yet? I am needing info for adapter kits, ECM changeovers(Body controllers), and anything else that will help me prep for the project.

I will move this to the 2nd generation Dakota sub-forum. IIRC there was only a 1st gen Dakota that had a diesel swap. In that section the FAQ will have the write up.

Some guy has a 3.9 swapped into his dakota. I cant think of his name tho. Do a search and you might find it. Those 2.8's have all that emissions crap so it will prob take a ton of work to get it to run right. If it would me I would go the 3.9 route.

1986JEEP- That is some of what I am looking for. I will need the follow up on the trans upgrade and how to keep the diff from shredding.
I know the 2.8 has all the emissions crap. I plan to bypass some of it depending on the price and setup difference between the 2. I have a guy looking up the prices but am after the aftermarket tuners and bolt on kits.
Anybody know of these yet, or are they too new?

I dont even think its out yet. The 3.9 is a 5.9 12v with only 2 less cylinders. Plus it being completely mechanical you can make hp with the turn of a wrench. All that emissions crap just takes away mpg's and kills the engine in the long run.

Default New info on the isf 2.8

So after some research. The ISF 2.8 will be out in 2014 to be Cummins response to the new emissions standards set by the Communist Republic of California. If you have Cummins Insite and know how to wire it, you can shut down the EGR and bypass the DPF and DEF systems.
The 3.9 that some are talking about is the old mechanical 4BT. This is just like the old 5.9 just smaller. The newest ones that are or may be out are the ISF series. The next one out is the ISF 3.8 which is just like the ISB but without two cylinders. It is a computer controlled, HPCR setup.
All of these are possible. I just need to know if anyone has dropped one in a gen II Dakota and how to wire the ECM into the Body Controller.

Any update on this project. As my kids got from Mythbusters, "This is BUSTED" The head guy at Cummins NW Engine sales gave me a thumbs down on both the ISF 2.8 and 3.8. These are Euro spec engines and will both not be available till 2014, at least. I am going back to the 4BT as a project and would recommend to anyone else due to the price and availability.
