Well it is official, the clips came off then the clutch pack exploded. Lucky I guess no damage to the spyder gears.

$500 later and all is good.

If a C-clip was gone the axle would have slid out. If you have play of more than 3/16th in and out of your axles I would drop the Diff cover and inspect to make sure the clips are in place before the clutches explode

First off - I apologize to the OP if this is considered a thread jack - not my intent.
I look the rear over and where the Ubolts hold the springs in place and anything that is anchored to the frame, I did not see any signs of shifting (signs of two surfaces sliding on each other that would rub down to the bare metal. There are so many rubber bushings everywhere - could be bad bushings - I also notice many times as I have my window down coming to a drive thru window, I hear a cracking noice - kind of like if you had bulbble wrap and you were twisting it a busting a bunch at once. Always seems to be when nearing a full stop. It sounds like it's coming from the front...

I have heard that noise before but it was simply pebbles on the ground being scuffed around by the tire. My Dakota also makes a weird feeling like my rear end is sliding forward and back. Now that its out of the shop ill have to get under it and see if i can see what's Goin on. Maybe we have the same problem
