Default Bed extender and Tonneau Covers

I bought my truck with a manual roll up tonneau cover already installed on it. I really like the advantages of the cover but I really need a bed extender, the extension to a 7ft bed makes a huge difference and the option of having a "trunk" created by the cover and reversed bed extender is great. But according to online sources the extender is impeded by the cover. Does this mean it requires some extra effort to get it in or switch or I can only have one or the other?

Anyone with knowledge on this please help, I want to know more before I go and buy a bed extender.

The problem with having both is you cant flip out the bed extender with the cover on. Most of the times tho where you need a bigger bed you are usually piling a bunch of stuff in it so your cover is usually off anyway.

Wait so that's what they consider impeding??? Wow...

Aside from that anyone else have another reason besides that? Cause if that is their only reason, I am concerned for nothing. Also thanks dodgeramguy for answering most of my questions I've had in a timely manner.

You'll just have to roll up your cover to put the extender in and to flip it out to extended. I have the xtang full tilt cover(vinyl cover on hydraulics) so I just lift the cover and flip it out if need be

Oh and another thing, my extender pokes into the cover a little bit, so depending on how your cover mounts, that may be an issue

Which brand or style of bed extenders are you guys using? I would like to get one and can find used ones on the cheap...I'm just not sure if I can modify one to fit my Dakota?

I bought an Amp Research bed extender yesterday at a 2nd hand shop for $25. It looked like it was for a full size truck, I was figuring I could cut it down to fit my Dakota. Today I was taking it apart to look at its construction and discovered that it's adjustable...I had no idea! It didn't come with mounting hardware so that's the next thing to track down.
