Default Remote Start Ignition Relay Help Needed!

Looking for help...

I'm in the process of installing a remote start in my 2004 Dakota Q-Cab 4X4.
AT/V8.
Black key, no fob.
Everything works as it should...Door locks, Dome light when unlocked etc.

Here's the issue:
When the truck starts the ABS light and the Brake light stay lit (Instrument Cluster) whether started with the key or remote. I need help with wiring the ignition relay(s). The tech support I've received has me running in circles.

All found at ignition harness at column:
12V constant pnk/blk or red/lt blue - I wired straight to the battery.
Starter - yellow
Ignition - blue
Second ignition - green/red and red/white
Accessory - black/orange
Second accessory - green

My remote starts High Current 6-pin Connections:
(2) Red 12V constant pwr - I wired straight to the battery.
Brown 12V starter - To yellow
Gray 12V Accessory output - To black/orange
Pink 12V Ignition output - To blue
Pink/White 12V Multifunction output - This can be programmed to serve as a 2nd Ign, Acc or starter output.

I've been told I need a rely or two for the ignition and a relay for a 2nd accessory.
Can someone confirm and describe how to wire these relays?

Thanks!

Your remote start unit only has one starter output, one ignition output and one accessory 12 volts output. Your truck has 2 ignition 12 volt circuits and 2 accessory 12 volt circuits. So you need a relay for each one of the second accessory and ignition circuits. You can use a plain old Bosch 30 amp single pole double throw relay. You can buy them at any parts store or maybe Radio Shack. If the outputs for the remote start are all positive, just wire the relay like this:

Terminal 85 to chassis ground
Terminal 86 to the pink/white second ignition output wire from the remote start
Terminal 87 to battery 12 volts positive
Terminal 30 to the second ignition wire, second accessory wire or which ever wire it is you need to provide power to

You need to wire a relay for each one of the second ignition and second accessory wires at the ignition harness. Wire each relay the same way as described above and use the pink ignition output from the remote start to energize both of the relays. Connect the pink wire to terminal 86 of each of the relays.

Think of the relay as a switch. Terminals 85 and 86 are the negative and positive inputs to the electromagnetic coil inside the relay. When you put power on one and ground on the other, it energizes the relay, or turns on the switch. Then whatever you put on terminal 87 of the relay will be output on terminal 30, any time the relay is energized. When the relay is not energized, or in a relaxed state, it provides connection between terminal 87a and 30. These relays you need to wire in for your remote start will not have any connections on 87a.

I don't know if this will solve the brake and ABS lights being on in the dash but it should allow the remote start to start the truck and power all of the ignition and accessory functions, like the radio, heater/ac etc.

Thanks.

If I understand you correctly:
2 total relays...One for 2nd ignition and one for 2nd Accessory.
I'm to wire both the pink wire and the pink/white wire to the same terminal?

My "Adding relay for 2nd accessory wire" diagram shows 86 as ground and 85 to IGN or ACC - Misprint?

Sorry I read that wrong, you will need 3 relays. Two relays for the 2nd ignition circuits and one for the 2nd accessory circuit. To keep it simple you could splice 2 short wires from the main ignition output wire from the remote start, connect one to the main ignition circuit and connect the other 2 wires to energize the relays for each of the second ignition circuits. Then just use the pink/white wire to energize the relay for the second accessory circuit. Just be sure the pink/white is programmed as a positive output.

On a relay it does not matter whether terminal 85 gets power and 86 gets a ground, or if it is the other way around. As long as you have power on one and ground on the other, the relay will energize. Using negative or ground input to 85 and power to 86 is just the "understood" way to do it, and is how I learned it myself.

Okay...I'm using 3 relays.

1 Acc relay.

2 IGN relays (pin 30 of 1 to red/grn IGN and the other pin 30 to red/white IGN)
Pin 86 (jumped to both relays) to IGN 1 split with pink from the remote starter unit.

Everything works:
Remote start on/off
Door locks
Radio
Windows
Heater

Still have the annoying ABS & Brake light!

The remote start and relays probably don't have anything to do with the ABS and brake lights being on. The remote start only mimics the action of you turning the ignition key and starting the truck yourself. The remote start only starts the truck. There is a sensor for the ABS that is located on top of the rear differential, and when it goes bad it illuminates the ABS and brake lights, I believe it is a speed sensor. I do not know much more than that about it though. Someone else here may help you with that or maybe you can find more info on it with the search function.

You're probably right...Not related to the relays.

The ABS light & Brake light are off while the truck is running with the remote start disconnected.

That is strange. Where did you pick up the tach input to the remote start, or is it a voltage sensing tach input? Also is there a parking brake input wire to the remote start? If so where is it connected?

Smart Tachless mode.
Nothing to the parking brake but to the brake pedal to shut off the remote start if you don't have the key in the IGN.

Strange. Where is the remote start grounded? Also where is it mounted? It could be somehow emitting a bit of RF or EMF that is enough to whack out the ABS and brake warning lights if the unit is too close to that part of the instrument cluster. Also as a test maybe try disconnecting the brake switch input and see if the problem persists.
