Project Dakota 98
I’m thinking about buying a used 98 Dakota almost exact same as my Dakota except it’s an extra cab same engine everything to give to my sister.
My question is the only problem it has is a fried computer if the computer is fried as he says what fried it and could there be any other electrical problems that fried it that may be impossible to fix like re wiring the truck?
He is asking $1K only for it
Any suggestions

Well in my personal experience electronics are a pain in the ***.
It depends on how and why the computer fried...
In my old Grand Prix I was getting a boost and we accidentally reversed the terminals, car started fine, but the radio didn't work and almost everything like likes and buttons also didn't work.
The wiring could be all messed up too and its not something I would wanna try.

Hi 98,
I'd like to know how they fried the "computer" too. I'm assuming it was the PCM. If everything else looks good then I'd say go for it. Yes there are a lot of electronics but it's not nearly as bad as the newer vehicles. You also have extensive experience with a 98 and the 2.5.
Go for it.

Don't know if this will help but thought I throw it out there. Mom had 06 Cobalt and the computer failed on it at 40,000 miles. Dealer replace it and car is running today with no other issue's Computer has 21,000 on it now.
Still waiting for this guy to send me a few pic's its not close I dont want to drive down to find some trashed Dakota sitting on the side of the lawn on cinder blocks.
He did say it just quit on him one day no wrong way jumping damage so Im still interested in it.
The mystery Dakota

Even if it isn't a good candidate to give to your sister it might still be worth it for the motor alone. Pull it out and do a crazy rebuild of it. That'd be fun.

I was thinking about using it as a parts truck as one alternative for $1K its worth it.
Plus its an extra cab if the body is in good shape it may be a switcher for me.
Even getting an extra Trans out of it is worth it
Actualy he said the engine was just rebuilt a year ago with a new clutch
