Default Best way to access fuel pump?

I have the classic fuel pressure leaksown issue on my 98 slt 4x4 with the 318...
I'm going to replace the fuel pump et all and my body thinks I should either pill the body or cut a hole In the bed rather then dropping the tank... What's every bodies feeling on this?

i found it easier to just remove the bed.. makes life a whole lot easier. cutting a hole in the bed, you run the risk of knicking a fuel line, return line, or electrical harness.. its 8 bolts, should be easy with an air powered impact gun, or electric with breaker bar. i used an electric with a breaker bar. the bed was coming off anyway (rotted) so the last 2 bolts that wouldnt come out, i cut off

i got a 2000 base/sport 4x4 with the 3.9

I'll second "pull" the bed.

Use an engine hoist if you can't get a couple of strong friends to help.

Would have to agree with bed removal.Just had mine off to do some undercoating. 4 bolts each side, remove taillights, and undo filler neck. The fuel pump is right there no fuse no muse. 2 guys can lift it off.

I actuall say drop the tank. I say that though because on my 2002 quad cab, the fuel pump module is not completely accesible with the bed off - it's is partially under the cab. Either way is not very difficult but with the bed you need extra help unless you have chain falls or something to lift the bed off.

I agree with this. I've done a bunch of them (to be fair, most were done on a lift with an under-lift type tranny jack) and I think it's easier to just pull the tank. You can do the whole job in like 45 minutes.
