Default Questions from a noob...

I have a few questions im sure you could all answer for me.

1) Does anyone on here have 31 inch tires on there Dakota, and if so do you know how far the spedometer is off ? ?

2) What is the difference between having overdrive on or overdrive off ? Any pros or cons ? And what exactly does it do ?

Hey sorry bud. I didn't see the thread. I have 31s on my Dak. Mine came from the factory so it was calibrated for them. What year do you have?
Overdrive pretty much saves you fuel. When you have it on it shifts the transmission into 4th gear. When you have it off it stays in 3rd gear and runs your rpms up. It pulls more. More torque. But it burns more fuel.

What he said. Mine came with the 245/75r16 or whatever, I yanked them off and put 31x10.5x15's on oem wheels. It's all oem sizing so it's not off. I typically only turn the OD on while on the freeway, it's not good to lug it in OD. If you find it hunting for gears you're going to burn up the tranny.

NO problem on the late reply. I just thought it was odd no one had posted anything. Anyway, i just bought a Black 98 Dakota, ex-cab,4x4, with 109,000 on the clock. So basically just leave o/d on most of the time ?

So far I absolutly love this truck. The 5.2 is more power than you really need in a small truck...but thats a good thing right ? I havent taken it on any trails yet, but plan to soon. One thing i like is the acceleration. For a 4x4 truck i think its pretty quick.

I leave my OD on all the time unless I'm messing around or going down steep hills just to slow the truck down a little and not right the brakes. How's does it run with a 109,000 on it?

It runs mint! ! I was so impressed when i first drove it. I think since its such a small truck and such a large engine it will last a long time. I was also impressed with how smooth it rides. The only think wrong is....well, im not sure exactly what it is, but the steering column feels weird. like its a little loose or something. seemy to have a little play in it. But overall its the best truck i have ever owned.

Cool man. Good luck with it. Do you have any mods planned for it?

All i have done right now is a decent sound sytem. Sony deck, with 4 polk audio speakers and 2 tweeters. 100 watts to each speaker. Bumps pretty good. And i ordered a slealth sub box for it. It has 2 tens and fits under the rear seat.

I am also doing a flowmaster dal exhaust next week. Other than that and an intake what are some good mods to do ? ?

Try one with a 5.9. They scoot pretty well.

I keep picturing my back seat thinking nothing is going under that, let alone a pair of subs. I guess that's one bonus for the club cab.
