Default 04' QC 4x4 Blowing Parking fuse with Trailer.

Hey Guys,

Hope I am posting in the right section here. Got a 04' QC 4x4 Dakota and recently had a hitch installed for towing. When i hook up the trailer everything works fine however as soon as i turn on my headlights my parking / running lights fuse blows. Blinkers / brakes still work but no running lights. I was told to check the wiring in the trailer because it sounds like ground is shorting out.

Here's the kicker.. When I hooked up a 2001 Dodge ram to the same trailer everything was fine. No blown fuses in the vehicle and running lights working on the trailer. Would this problem lay within my trucks new harness that was installed? Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's the trailer if it works on another vehicle.

Does the fuse blow with just the parking lights on? I expect it does.

It very well could be a wiring problem with the harness. Is it a 4 pin harness? I'm wondering if they got the parking light and ground connection wrong.

White is ground. Where does it connect to the truck?
Brown is the parking lights. Where does it connect?
Green is right
Yellow is left

mine does the same thing on my 03. i just figured it was a short on my trailer and hadn't rewired it yet. plus when it blows the parking light fuse it also kills the electric brakes.

Thank's for the responses. I took the truck to a trailer / hitch shop and they ran a few tests on the truck. Everything checked out fine. Looks like it is a short in the trailer after all.
