Default Built Myself a New Sub Enclosure

Hey guys,

Just sharing my newest addition to the truck, I made myself a new custom sub box that fits my reg cab. Took my time building this one as opposed to my first box which I anxiously rushed to get it in there.

This new one is 2.5 inches shallower than my first box but has +0.2 cu ft compared to my old box.

For those interested the new dimensions were:

H: 16.25 "
W: 21.5 "
TD: 4 "
BD: 6 "
MD: 5 " (sub needed 4.25")

And here is the link to first guide I created about adding your own sub/amp:

Quick Terrible photo of the old sub (black) to the new one (unpainted):

Finished Product:

I have some Kicker KS60 speakers in the mail and will be installing those next.

Eventually I will make the exact same box but for the drivers side and run dual subs and throw the amp under the seat. I will also post fitment pictures of the sub when its in the truck within a couple days. Still not done the Christmas holidays yet!

Thanks for lookin!

Nice work! How big is your sub? I have a 10" currently but the box is too large, would like to build a slimmer design. I'll wait for your pics of the fit and see if I can work your ideas into my rig.

Thanks man!

Its a 10 inch Kicker (CVT10-2) shallow mount sub (best for single cabs) which requires 4 1/4 inch mounting depth.

Requires .8 cubic feet of airspace ranging from 3.0 cubic feet. It has a huge airspace range which you wouldn't normally find, but I've been told great things about Kicker products and so far it hasn't let me down.

I will post pictures of the fitment but in a couple days, I'm going out of town tomorrow but will be back Monday. If I did forget to upload fitment pics then pm me and I'd be happy to show ya!

Okay I'm a day late with those pictures I promised, but here they are.

Overall I am pretty pleased with the new box, looks much better and has ZERO air leaks. The only gripe I have is when coming up with the new dimensions I should've kept the height the same as my old one and only make it wider ( I made it 1.25 inches taller). I made it alot shallower but by increasing the width and adding that small box portion to fit snug with the center console I had sufficient airspace.

The seat will now fit all the way back, but because I made the box taller there is less room to recline the seat, therefore causing me to have to move the seat up inorder to recline it in a comfortable position. When the snow melts I plan on building custom mounts so I can bolt the box in snugly, right now the seat holds the top part in, and the little box portion keeps the bottom in fairly tight.

And in a few more months I will probably build yet another box hahaha.

Here are the pics! Quite a few!

I made the same mistake when I made my Ext cab box, I made it 1/2" too tall (even with a bevel front) and it hits at ideal recline. Photobucket isn't working for me or I'd post up.

Yeah, the plan was to make this one fit perfectly with the seat back and comfortably reclined. If I was able to get it to work I would be throwing a second sub behind the drivers seat. I just wouldn't like to be uncomfortable while driving.

As for the new amp mounting spot I am thinking under the driver seat. There isn't enough room behind the center console.
