2000 Dakota tail light trouble
Hello all, I have received help from this forum before that worked out well. My trouble now is my left turn signal flashes fast on my 2000 Dakota quad cab with a 4.7 Ltr, it would come and go for a month or so but now is here to stay. I have traced my wires as best I can and do not see any cuts or sarapes, when the light is flashing fast what I did notice is that both filiments in the rear brake light bulb that are flashing, I checked both the lamp, I changed it, and sockets, all look good but I found out that the third light bulb, I have not changed yet, looks like it got so hot it caused the glass to bulge out and it is real black. I also seem to have the age old trouble with my dome and dash lights others seem to have, I changed the switch cluster but still the same.
Check BOTH bulbs in the FRONT left turn signal, and see if they are working.
Is the brake light at normal brightness?
There are 3 connections to the bulb. One for each filament and a common ground. It's sort of like a "V" where at the two tips are the hot leads and the point is the ground. If the two connections for the brake and park filaments were "connected" by a short, then the other parking lights would also flash.
If the lights are dim, then you may have a bad ground. Power is passing through both filaments and seeking ground by the other park lights.
Pull the bulb and put a meter on it.

Hello, I changed the lamp, and it does it with the unit unplugged now only the left rear running light is comming on with the brake light, I am going to check it again this evening, I will keep you posted.
Behind and below the tail light you'll find a connection in the wiring harness going to the tail light. Disconnect the connection and check for rust or corrosion. If found, scrape and clean and apply a small amount of dielectric grease and reconnect. May solve your problem.
