My best suggestion is NEVER let the tach get over 2,000 rpm. I did that with my '04 Dakota SXT 4x4 Std. cab, with the 3.7 V6, auto and 265 tires (inflated to 35 psi) and managed to coax as much as 19.5 to 21 mpg out of it. Otherwise, 16.5 mpg is about my average unless I'm pulling a trailer, then 13 mpg is a blessing.
Dakota and fuel economy shouldn't be in the same sentence haha
