I love the optimum red top gel batteries, I have never had a problem with it and i bought it while living in AZ so it dealt with the heat then moved to Utah and now am in Colorado and it would always start right up in the extreme cold.

I did have 1 duralast red top that failed after 6 months. With my cj being carbed v8 after about 2 or 3 weeks of sitting it takes about 30 sec to get the fuel back up. So it didnt like too many of those starts and one day it just died and wouldnt hold a charge. Other than that we have had no problems with them. My buddy had a gold top in his woods beater, then his dodge ram. It went through a lot of abuse and never gave up. If you are still in your warranty period you can take it back.

I had an Optima red top that was 12 years old when I sold the truck it was in and it was still going strong. I hear the quality isn't what it used to be, though.

it's not. Lots of racers have been complaining of bad red tops lately. Most have switched to Rock batteries or to wet-plate units (Which must be positioned such that the plates don;t contact during acceleration). Not many reputable solid-core batteries anymore.
