Default 2000 Dakota battery?

Bought this truck used last week. Drove it last night and went to go start it this morning and only heard one click and wouldn't start. Jumped it and it started right up, i let it run for about a half hour then turned it of and went to restart it and again i only had the one click. Im thinking a bad battery, any ideas?

You need to measure the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine off. Anything below 12.6 volts indicates a bad battery. Measure battery voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running at idle, you should have 13.5 to 14.5 volts. Keep the engine running and turn on the headlights on high beam and A/C on high speed. The voltage at the battery should not drop below 13.5 volts and should steadily increase back to the same voltage you had with the engine running and no accessories turned on. If you have more than one volt of difference between the engine running with no accessories turned on and the engine running with the lights and A/C on, you may have a defective alternator. You can remove the alternator and take it to a parts store for testing, most stores will check it for free. If the first store says it is OK, take it to another store for a second test to confirm. A parts store can also do a basic load test on the battery and tell if it is defective. If the alternator and battery test OK then you may have a faulty voltage regulator, which is an internal part of the PCM. The best way to fix that is to replace the PCM. My guess is you have a bad battery.

Best battery I have ever used, they hold up great here in the Florida heat. I have one in my truck and wife's car too. My truck will sometimes sit for 4 or 5 days without being started or driven, and it always fires right on up every time. This year will be our third summer on Duralast Gold, no problems at all with either one.

I’m not that convinced on the Duralast as that’s what I have now and I’m not too happy with it had an Interstate before the Duralast and it was always strong the Duralast has been so so. This cold snap we had last month sapped its energy the interstate never had a problem with cold weather.

Maybe I got a Lemon

Both are made by Johnson Controls. My cj and grand cherokee both have duralast redtops and they have been great. My truck has a cheap set of batteries but starts my truck really well when its not plugged in. They are crown automotive batts(1000 crank 850 cc's and 120min res)

My duralast is only two years old and it’s a 750 cc's and it was having a very hard time cranking over my little 2.5 engine that’s pathetic in my book.

I must have one of those Lemons I guess

I have read that Autozone has different quality standards for the Duralast Gold batteries, and that Autozone requires Johnson Controls to build the Duralast Gold to tougher specs with better and longer lasting materials than other batteries built by Johnson Controls. I have no idea how much of that is really true but the Duralst Gold is a great battery. A lot of guys here in Florida use them and they hold up very well. The Auto Craft Silver battery I had before I bought my Duralast Gold lasted just barely over two years. Maybe I got a lemon with that one myself.
