You MUST take the weight off the front of the truck. And yes the aftermarket keys will help as they have a little bit more off set on the key to give you a little more adjustment. I just did this lift on my truck and it might have taken an hour of two tops to do keys and blocks. You dont need a tool, just a C clamp to put a little pressure on the key to get the bolt started again. It also helps to put a floor jack under the lower control arm on that side to help get the bolt started. Th BOLT will fail before any of the other stuff as my old truck can attest. That is why you dont crank the tbars without taking the weight off the front. It will settle some after you adjust them and you may have to readjust. Best thing is to driver over some curbs or bumps to cycle the suspension afterwards to settle it then readjust.
If the torsion bar has been removed and not indexed to right location to put pressure back on suspension you can crank the bolt and nothing will happen. New keys supposedly or I should say new lift keys. Change the angle of the suspension greatly and put's more of a strain on the front end.
with a 3 inch suspension lift with the blocks and torsion keys would i need new suspension
You don't want to lift your front end 3" with torsion keys. It will cause all your front end parts (ball joints, CV joints, tires, etc) to wear much faster and will make your truck ride like crap. 2" is as much as I would advise by that method.
If you get the kit with torsion bar keys, lift blocks, u-bolts, etc., you shouldn't need to buy anything else.
