Default Purge Control Solenoid guestion

I just put a new motor in my 1998 Dakota 5.2L 318 and i just recently fixed a stalling problem i had. I havent really been driving it much so i went out and started today and when you start the truck it sounds normal. After about a minute or 2 there is a ticking noise. Thought it was a lifter but as i felt around i realized it is coming from the Purge Control Solenoid.
I was wondering what the Purge Control Solenoid does and what could cause it to peck. Also do i need to replace it?

It's supposed to "peck." It's cycling on and off, as it should. There is a time delay so it doesn't start immediately.

It purges vapors out of the EVAP canister.

Completely normal.
