Talking Pinion nut

Need to change pinion seal. Does anyone know the torque on the nut?

Initial torque is 210 ft.lb but before you take it off use a in.lb torque wrench and see what the resistance is to spin the axle. Tighten to its initial tq then measure it with your in.lb till you get the same reading as you had before disassembly.

my 2001 dakota factory service manual shows. both 9 1/4 and 8 1/4 axles for the pinion nut min, 210 ft lbs. its been a long time since i worked with them. but i would put loc-tite blue on the threads, just enough you dont want it on the bearings just dont get it to tight of to lose.

Got a cheap Craftsman torque wrench I can check the resistance with. Definitely on the thread lock. Going to change the oil while I am in there. Only got about 23,000 since last one but couldn't hurt.

Chain wrench or pipe wrench on the yoke as you tighten it.
