Default need help/advice

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I need some help on the ctm issue. I tried all the home remedies of disconnecting the battery and the ctm harnesses and that didn't resolve the issue. I found a website, autopartswharehouse.com, and found a "replacement" part but I'm not entirely sure if it is what I need. Please help me out on this one. Thank you.

MM,

Welcome to the forum!

There is no way for us to know if the part will fix your issue without knowing what vehicle you have (year, model, engine, etc.) and what it's doing wrong.

This thread was dedicated to CTM issues and you've brought in an ECM problem. It would be best to post your question in a new thread.

Good luck!

Robb, thanks for the info. I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota SLT V6. The issue is with my CTM. My lights "blink" every 5 seconds and my keyless entry has failed. The part in question in the link is the only part I was able to find in an extensive google search.

Welcome to the forum MMason..

The keyless and light problems are classic symptoms of Central Timer Module (CTM) failure. That part in the link you provided is not a CTM. It looks a lot like a Powertrain Control Module (PCM). A CTM is much smaller than the part in the link you posted, it is all black, is made by Motorola, it has one screw hole at the top side and two screw holes on the bottom side and it has 3 large plastic molex connectors on one end. Here is a link to a CTM for sale on Ebay, so you can see what it looks like:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-03-Dodge-...3d8a5e&vxp=mtr

The keyless entry is an internal part of the CTM and the CTM also controls the headlights, interior lights and fog lights, but it does not control the dash lights or tail lights.

The best thing to do if you have tried resetting the CTM and checking all grounds and power connections is to contact the Dodge dealer parts department and give them your VIN. There are two different CTM part numbers, one for base model trucks without power windows, locks and keyless entry etc and there is a different CTM for trucks with all of the power options. That CTM is caled a "high-line" CTM. If you don't want to buy a new CTM from the dealer then maybe the Dodge parts guy can give you the part number for it based on your VIN and you can find it for sale online.

Whether you buy the new CTM at the dealer or not you will still need to have the dealer program your old keyless entry remote fobs to the new CTM. They have to do that with the dealer's DRB-3 scan tool. That is the only way to program the fobs.

Jimmy,
Thanks for all the info and clearing things up between the PCM and the CTM. I will make my way over to the Dodge dealer and see what they can do for me. I have pulled out the module and it didn't do anything for me so I'm afraid I have to spend the money and get the dealership part. Again, thanks for the help!

YW. I think it is best to buy the critical electrical parts like a CTM at the Dodge dealer. You can also ask for a discount at the dealer. Dealer parts prices are crazy expensive but they do have room to negotiate for a lower price if you ask. The dealer may even give you a discount on programming the new CTM if you buy it there. It never hurts to ask for a discount, the worst they can do is say no.

MMason,

There was a recall for the CTM, something to do with the headlights failing. Maybe it is applicable in your situation, if it hasn't been replaced. Check with the dealer, maybe it won't cost you anything. It was recall: 02V322000

Check around at a few dealers as some of the prices will vary a lot. Also when they get it in no need to have them install it. They usually charge around 100.00 to install it when it can be done in 2 min. Then once installed just tell them you need your keyless reprogrammed.
